The World’s Food Systems Are Sounding the Alarm!

Ending Food Waste & What We Can Do for Food Security

Today, nearly 700 million people around the world face hunger.
This is not just a statistic—it’s a tangible sign of the breaking point our global food systems have reached.
On one side, there is overconsumption, waste, and depletion of resources; on the other, undernourishment and food injustice.
According to the 2025 World Economic Forum, climate change, increasing droughts, and declining soil fertility are disrupting the balance between agriculture and nature.

The question is no longer how much we can produce, but how we produce and how we share.

This reality calls for a new sense of responsibility for both producers and consumers:
to use our resources wisely, to produce without waste, to protect nature, and to ensure fair distribution.

FAO’s Call: Better Food, Better Future – Hand in Hand

The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) declared October 16 as World Food Day.
Each year, this day carries a new theme. For 2025, it brings the message:
“Better Food, Better Future – Hand in Hand.”
This theme highlights not only food production but also the need for collaboration among communities, businesses, and individuals in creating real solutions.

At LAVA, we answer this call through our principle of
“Sustainability in the Cycle from Production to Plate.”
The long-lasting nature of cast iron, its waste-reducing properties, and our philosophy of local manufacturing are tangible reflections of the sustainable food ecosystem envisioned by FAO, brought to life here in Turkey.

Sustainability for Food Safety: Beyond Access to Food

Sustainability is not only about ensuring access to food; it encompasses a holistic system from production to consumption.
Every step in a product’s life cycle—from soil to plate, from producer to consumer, from cooking to waste management—is a link in this chain.

LAVA completes this chain through resource-conscious productiondurable product design, and a commitment to the circular economy.
Each pot and pan symbolizes a production philosophy in harmony with nature’s rhythm.

True sustainability is not merely about protecting nature—it is about keeping it alive as an integral part of life.

October 16 – World Food Day: A Philosophy of the Table

World Food Day, celebrated each year on October 16, is not just a date for awareness.
It’s a reminder of the value of every bite on our plates.
Each year, one-third of all food produced globally is wasted, while millions of people still struggle to access safe and sufficient nutrition.
This imbalance underscores why sustainable food systems are more vital than ever.

At LAVA, we believe that the sustainability of food begins not only in the soil where it is grown but also in the pot where it is cooked.
Because a healthy future starts with conscious production and conscious consumption.

    Sustainable Food: Feeding the Future

    What is sustainable food?

Sustainable food is a model of production and consumption that meets today’s needs while safeguarding future generations’ access to food.
It embraces eco-friendly agriculture, fair trade, energy efficiency, and support for local production.

LAVA’s philosophy of “Flavor Born from Fire” is, in essence, a reflection of respect for nature expressed through cooking.
With their durable, repairable, and recyclable structure, cast iron cookware are part of the circular economy—a continuous cycle from production to consumption.

Food Safety: The Importance of Every Bite on Our Table

Why is food safety the foundation of sustainability?

Because without safe food, sustainability remains only a concept.
Food safety means that every ingredient, from its source to your plate, remains hygienic, nutritious, and free from harmful substances.

LAVA cookware, with its natural cast-iron surface, allows for cooking at high temperatures without the need for harmful chemicals.
This preserves the nutritional value of food while promoting natural cooking methods.
Sustainability, therefore, begins not only in production—but also in our kitchen choices.

Food Waste: Stopping the Invisible Loss at Our Table

How can we prevent food waste at home and in professional kitchens?

Did you know that 60% of all food waste happens in homes?
Yet small changes can make a big difference:

    • Plan your shopping: Buy only what you need to prevent overproduction and waste.
    • Store and reheat in cast iron: LAVA cast iron retains heat for longer, keeping food fresh and flavorful when reused.
    • Buy local: Supporting nearby producers shortens transport routes and reduces your carbon footprint.

LAVA promotes the philosophy of “doing more with less,” encouraging both an economical and ecological way of life in the kitchen.

Local Production and Circular Economy: Returning to Our Roots

Turkey’s fertile lands are among the strongest foundations for a sustainable future.
    LAVA manufactures entirely within Turkey.
Through local production, we ensure that the economic cycle remains within the country while reducing the carbon footprint of manufacturing processes.

Guided by the principles of the circular economy, every LAVA product is durable, repairable, and 100% recyclable—designed to give back to nature what was once taken from it.
