    Kuymak Recipe - Traditional Turkish Cornmeal and Cheese Dish

     

    Materials

    • 2 tablespoons of butter
    • 1 cup of cornmeal
    • 1.5 cups of water (can be mixed with milk if desired)
    • 1 cup of grated Kolot cheese (or mozzarella, string cheese, or other melting cheese)
    • Salt (adjust according to the saltiness of the cheese)

     

    Instructions:

    • Place the butter in a pan and melt it over low heat. Let it slightly sizzle but be careful not to burn it.
    • Add the cornmeal to the melted butter and stir continuously for about 3–4 minutes until it gives off a nutty aroma.
    • Gradually pour in the water while stirring constantly to avoid lumps. The mixture should thicken as it cooks.
    • Once the mixture has thickened, sprinkle the grated cheese on top. Do not stir—just cover the pan and let the cheese melt.
    • When the cheese has melted and begins to stretch, your kuymak is ready! Serve hot. It's especially delicious with a side of cornbread.
